Individual Therapy

In individual therapy, you have the undivided attention of an experienced therapist. You can open up completely and talk about your personal issues without feeling observed or judged by others.

Customised psychotherapy: procedure and treatment requirements in individual therapy

If you have opted for psychotherapy as individual therapy, after an initial consultation and trial sessions, sessions are usually held once a week at the beginning. In the final stage of individual therapy, the frequency of sessions can be spaced further apart and thus adapted to your treatment needs.

  • One treatment session lasts 50 minutes.
  • Short-term treatment usually involves up to 25 hours of treatment,
  • Long-term treatment includes up to 80 hours of behavioural therapy, up to 100 hours of depth psychology and far more hours of analysis.

Your treatment needs are described by the therapist in the form of an expert report. The health insurance company’s assessor will authorise the individual therapy accordingly if other health insurance company criteria are also met.

Individual therapy: short-term or long-term treatment
What is the right duration for your needs?

Individual therapies can be very short, i.e. up to 25 hours, or much longer, e.g. up to 100 hours or more.

When do you need a short treatment and when a longer one?

That depends on the issue and the depth of the problem. If it is only a focal conflict that is relatively manageable and does not affect other areas of life, a short course of therapy may be sufficient. However, if it turns out in the course of the therapy that other areas of life are affected, it may take considerably longer. For example, it may initially be a matter of overcoming and coming to terms with a separation. Once this has happened and the desire for a new partnership arises, this desire can be experienced as conflictual. The person concerned may feel anxious about finding the right partner or even a partner at all. If this issue is addressed further in psychotherapy and the person’s internalised patterns are looked at, a lot can be worked on here. With the help of psychotherapy, it is possible to live in a good partnership and be happier in your private life. I report this from many experiences that I have gathered in long psychotherapy sessions.
